According to a few news websites, Windows 7 OEM versions will begin shipping with new computers as soon as next month, only a few weeks away. Retail and upgrade versions Microsoft has announced that the general availability will be October 22, 2009.
We are urging our customers that are running XP to continue with their existing operating system and not take the plunge in upgrading to Windows 7 right away. This is mainly because you may be required to upgrade or replace many of your other 3rd party applications and utilities to be compatible with the Windows 7 system. Microsoft does have an "XP Compatibility" mode that may help to alleviate this problem, but I have not yet seen how well this feature works, nor have I read that it promises a 100% compatibility guarantee. We will be testing this capability over the next few weeks.
To anyone that got stuck running Vista and is disatisfied, upgrade to Windows 7 as soon as you can as your software for Vista have a better compatibility with Windows 7.
